What Liberalism Does to a Church
Many
Christian grow weary of hearing warnings about liberalism's threat to
the church. The following facts will help the honest disciples see why
the danger is real and the warning needed. More than 50 years ago
theological liberalism overtook most of the mainline Protestant
denominations in America. Consider what has happened to them since 1960.
- The Presbyterian Church had in
1960, 4.2 million members. They now have 2.3 million.
- The United Church of Christ
boasted 2.2 million then, but only 1.3 million now.
- The Episcopal Church claimed 3.4
million back then but now has shrunk to 2.3.
The same decline has affected all the liberal
Protestant groups. When populations of wildlife suffering
such drastic decline they are considered endangered species.
On the other hand, the conservative, evangelical churches are still
thriving and growing. One need not be a Nobel Prize winner to
see that the path of liberalism spells death to any church that travels
it. If we would survive, we must cling to those fundamental
truths of our faith, never doubting the Bible or the Savior.
Sincerely,
